What I will do for you:
If you have a manuscript that wants to become a book, let me help you.
I’ll start with your electronic files or hand-written pages, and will design and produce a handsome book for you, in a stack as high as you like. Your input in the process can be as little or as much as you want. Typically there is ongoing feedback and communication between the author and me. I work with a great group of highly-regarded illustrators, photographers and printers. The following are the services that I typically perform when producing a book:
DESIGN
- Decide on the type face and design the page
- Choose the color, weight and texture of the paper to be used
- Design the cover (front, back, spine)
- Provide you with mock-ups for your input
LAYOUT
- Scan and correct any photos to be used
- Procure artwork, whether copyrighted material, new illustrations, etc.
- Create table of contents
- Create/include ancillary material such as title page, copyright page, dedication, etc.
EDITORIAL
- If you wish, I can make editorial suggestions
- I always go over every manuscript with a fine-toothed mental comb (it’s amazing how many typos come in with the “final” manuscript)
- Make changes or corrections for the author (most poets do some fine-tuning of their work right up until going to the printer – that’s not a problem)
- Help you obtain (if desired) and insert ISBN code
PRODUCTION
- Get quotes from several excellent book printers
- Prepare files and send them to the printer
- Check proofs (with your input)
- Work with printer to ensure you get a great product
- Prepare manuscript for e-book
PROMOTION
- Promotion is up to you, but I can give some suggestions and supply you with the appropriate graphic(s) from your book. You might find this book useful.
